CNPC USA Appoints Dr. Mark McClure to Technical Advisory Committee

Houston, TX, May 9, 2025 – CNPC USA has appointed Dr. Mark McClure, Founder and CEO of ResFrac Corporation, as an advisor to its Technical Advisory Committee. In this role, Dr. McClure will provide strategic guidance on research and development initiatives, contribute to the formulation of technical roadmaps, and support the commercialization of significant scientific and technological projects.

During his visit, Dr. McClure delivered a technical lecture and engaged in comprehensive discussions with CNPC USA’s leadership and technical teams. The event, hosted by Dr. Haige Wang, Senior Vice President of CNPC USA, showcased ResFrac’s cutting-edge advancements in fully coupled hydraulic fracturing and reservoir simulation software. ResFrac’s industry-leading platform, utilized by over 35 oil and gas companies and 50 institutions worldwide, is a preferred solution for simulations in unconventional oil and gas reservoirs and geothermal development.

The lecture addressed critical topics, including modeling bedding plane fractures, proppant transport dynamics, and case studies from U.S. unconventional reservoirs, with a focus on challenges such as refracturing, infill well fracturing, and fracture height growth.

Technical teams actively participated in discussions, exploring the role of bedding plane fractures in hydraulic fracturing analysis, the integration of fiber-optic monitoring and downhole imaging with ResFrac simulations to enhance fracturing precision, and the software’s applications across unconventional and conventional reservoirs, as well as deep geothermal projects. Both parties reviewed past collaborations and identified opportunities for expanded future partnerships.

Dr. McClure shared insights from his distinguished career, including his academic career and the founding of ResFrac, emphasizing the strategic importance of advanced simulation technologies for hydraulic fracturing and geothermal energy.

The event concluded with Dr. Wang presenting Dr. McClure with an honorary certificate, formalizing his appointment to the Technical Advisory Committee and recognizing his significant contributions to advancements in the petroleum and natural gas industry. Attendees included CNPC USA Vice Presidents Jack Shoemaker, Peng Cheng, Kevin Waddell, and several technical team managers.
