Dr. Jiaxiang (Jason) Ren Receives Best Paper Award at 2024 International Elastomer Conference

Belated congratulations to Dr. Jiaxiang (Jason) Ren for winning the Best Paper Award at the 2024 International Elastomer Conference
Dr. Jiaxiang (Jason) Ren, Manager of the Materials and Fundamental Research Team at CNPC USA, was honored with the Best Paper Award at the 2024 International Elastomer Conference (IEC) for his presentation titled “Development of Dissolvable Rubber Materials for High Temperature High Pressure Acid Fracturing Dissolvable Plug Applications.”
Organized by the American Chemical Society (ACS), the IEC is one of the premier global conferences in the rubber industry. The Best Paper Award recognizes outstanding technical innovation, presentation quality, and significant industry impact. The awarded research was the result of close collaboration between the Materials Team and the Completion and Stimulation Team, who jointly developed a new series of high-performance dissolvable rubber materials. These materials not only deliver superior performance but also offer reduced production costs compared to competing products both in China and abroad.
Dissolvable rubber seals are a critical component in acid fracturing plugs, designed to meet demanding oilfield requirements. The newly developed dissolvable plugs can withstand 70 MPa of pressure at 150°C in 20% HCl, and subsequently dissolve in 90°C brine within 12 days.
This award highlights CNPC USA’s significant achievements in dissolvable rubber technology, showcasing its potential for global application in unconventional oil and gas reservoir stimulation. The breakthrough demonstrates China’s growing leadership in advanced energy materials and underlines the company’s commitment to reducing operational costs and enhancing wellbore isolation technologies.
