SI-18 Shale Inhibitor
SI-18 is a newly developed polymeric inhibitor for water-based drilling fluids. Its structure provides long-term inhibition of the hydration and expansion of shale particles, making it ideal for high-performance water-based systems.
Advantages
- High water solubility and high MW for long-term inhibition
- Low applied dosage (as low as 0.5%)
- Hot Roll Shale Dispersion Recovery ≥ 95%
- Cutting Slake Durability Test Recovery ≥ 90%
- Filter cake recovery in Bulk Hardness Test ≥ 90%
Typical Properties
- • Appearance: Amber Liquid
- • Specific Density: 1.223–1.253 g/cm³
- • Viscosity: < 500 cp
- • Flash Point: > 210 °F (100 °C)
- • Pour Point: < 3 °F (-16 °C)
- • pH (5% in water): 6.0–8.0
Applications & Treatment
SI-18 inhibits shale hydration, expansion, and disintegration in high-performance water drilling fluids. Recommended concentrations are 0.5–5.0 LB/BBL (1.42–14.2 kg/m³), depending on shale lithology.
- For fresh mud making, add the inhibitor before pH adjustment.
- During drilling, add SI-18 alternatively with sealing agents and lubricants to maintain fluid properties.
Packaging & Storage
- 265 Gal (900 Kg) totes (IBCs) or 55 Gal (180 Kg) drums.
- Store in original containers with closed lids in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated location.
