PressureWhileDrilling(PWD)
The PWD system monitors downhole drilling parameters with high accuracy and full-scale capability to improve efficiency and overall drilling performance. It plays a critical role in mitigating Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) shock and vibration—primary causes of downhole tool failure. Key parameters measured by the PWD include internal and external pressure, temperature, shock and vibration, and RPM. All measurements are recorded and simultaneously transmitted to the surface in real time via MWD telemetry, enabling optimized drilling performance. The system offers flexible power options, supporting either a battery configuration or MWD connection via a Data Link Assembly (DLA).
Key Features
Sour Service
The DMS utilizes three high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloys: Inconel 718, P550, and Beryllium Copper. Inconel 718 is a nickel-chromium alloy known for its resistance to a wide range of media. Nickel enhances its resistance to both inorganic and organic compounds across a broad pH range, while chromium provides protection against oxidizing and sulfur-containing environments. Additionally, molybdenum contributes to resistance against pitting corrosion. P550 is a manganese-chromium steel alloy with a high nitrogen content. The elevated nitrogen improves resistance to pitting, enhances protection against stress corrosion cracking, and supports the corrosion-resistant properties of chromium. Beryllium Copper is valued for its excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and its ability to maintain mechanical strength in hydrogen sulfide (H₂S)* environments.
* The standard elastomer offers partial resistance to H₂S; however, for environments with H₂S concentrations exceeding 20 ppm, a specialized elastomer is available to ensure enhanced protection.
Sensors
CNPC USA employs pressure transducers, accelerometer and gyro integrated within an internal cartridge. Measurement signals are captured, recorded, and processed using a proprietary methodology, offering operational flexibility to deliver both low-resolution real-time data and high-resolution post-run data.
